2 weeks ago we talked about the importance of putting your business on the map from Google Places to Yahoo and Bing, but now let’s track how your website is doing on Google’s.
If you have a website and want to know if your website is being fully indexed by Google you need a Google Webmaster Account.
Begin by adding a website and then validating it with any of the 4 options provided by Google. I recommend using the connection through Google Analytics.
Once your website is validated one of the first steps you need to take is to submit an XML Sitemap to submit to Google. An xml sitemap is a feed that shows Google all your website pages like submitting a book index. How do your create an XML sitemap you ask? Great question, if your website was created with an open source application like Wordpress there is a plugin that can generate this for you or you can use the tool at: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
Spend time each week reviewing your webmaster account to monitor keyword traffic, crawl errors, crawl stats and HTML suggestions. Some of the edits you’ll need to make you may be able to do yourself others you may need help from a webmaster.
