On May 17, 2011 Network Solutions produced an event to support Small Business Week. The event was “Mobile Marketing for Small Business: Fact vs. Fiction.”

While you might not think about it, when you’re Googling a restaurant, store or movie theater from your Blackberry, iPhone, Android or ipad- You’re participating in mobile marketing! This technology is not only handy and fun, it can be pretty lucrative as well. One in three searches on a mobile device is local. After searching for a business on their mobile device: 61% call the business, 59% visit the business; 88% take action the same day!

Social media today means more than just Facebook and Twitter. Still very popular in the social media atmosphere are blogging and video sharing. Then there is also the recent trend of carrying social media over to your mobile phones with “check in” applications such as Foursquare and Facebook Places. Companies finally understand the importance of being online and are now trying to super-size their efforts. But with all that is going on, it can be difficult to keep up!

Are Websites Going Away?

Last week I had the opportunity to present to the BOMA Boston chapter. The presentation was: “Leveraging Social Media To Connect With Your Audience” (download the pdf).  After the presentation, someone said to me that pretty soon, we won’t need a website. Now, as a web design / development agency owner I needed to pause for a moment. Was this person really telling me my lively hood, my calling, my passion will soon be obsolete?
