PowerPoint, when we think of this software, we think of onscreen presentations that we see at conferences or meetings. You can use PowerPoint for more than just onscreen slide shows.

Last week one of our readers asked a great question about formatting the fonts in PowerPoint text boxes.

If you use the master slide to control the overall look and feel of the design of your PowerPoint, you can easily apply a consistent look to all your slides. However, many users add additional text boxes that revert back to a default font, like Arial, and then we spend time trying to fix each text box. No More!!

To set a default font for your presentation, just open the presentation and from the formatting toolbar choose the font style and size you want. Now when ever you make a new text box it will use the option you just set. Don’t forget to save your changes!

(Insert Screen Shot of PowerPoint Text Box)

Who new it was so simple! I know it seems too obvious but it does work.

As I was preparing for a class I am giving on PowerPoint this week, I realized how many people neglect using this program. Microsoft PowerPoint can be used for more than just giving a presentation. You can use it as a place to draw out ideas in a physical representation, saving them as an image for a Word document or even for your web site.

Open PowerPoint. Start a new blank presentation. Go to Format Menu – Choose – Slide Layout. Change your slide to a blank layout. From the drawing toolbar at the bottom of your screen you can start adding shapes or even an organizational chart.

When you’re finished, save your work. Then Click – File – Save As. From the Save As Type option on the bottom choose GIF or JPEG. If you have multiple slides you can save each one as an image or just the current slide.

So make use of PowerPoint for visuals in your office or on your web site.
