When webEBP (Web Evidence Based Practice) came to us, they knew they had a great product: online software applications that assist licensed mental health practitioners. What they didn’t know was how they could differentiate their start-up from the rest of their industry, get their name out there and market their products in a way that reflected the unique qualities of their software line.

We started with the basics: designing their logo and website. Because these products are targeted mostly toward academics at universities and medical facilities, their competitors’ websites are designed with muted color palates of cool tones like blues and grays for an overall subdued, serious effect. We, however, suggested they take a different approach – break from the pack with a red, yellow, orange and black-themed website and logo.

Although it doesn’t seem like a revolutionary decision, these minor design choices have a huge impact on how the user receives the website. By changing the colors to a more dynamic spectrum, their site stands out from the competition; it seems fresh, modern and cutting-edge, qualities that the user then relates to the quality of the product. The site design has, in turn, garnered a huge response from users, receiving rave reviews again and again.

To further differentiate their website from the competition, we created a custom demo of their software that users can try for free on the site. This visual, interactive element incorporated into the site further reinforces their uniqueness in the industry, and differentiates their product from the rest of the pack in a dynamic, interesting way.

The entire website is laid out in a clean, easy-to-navigate design that reflects their easy-to-use, streamlined software. This is important when creating any website, but even more so when you are selling technology, as users will equate your website’s design and functionality with how your product will perform. We set up the site through a Content Management System that webEBP can manage themselves after we educated them how to best use it – this gives them some control over managing, updating and refreshing their site, which was important to them.

We helped them with their business card design, using the logo and color theme from the new website for their business cards.  This creates a sense of cohesion, which helps foster brand development and shows your attention to detail in a simple, interesting way.

We furthered this by creating their letterhead design, powerpoint templates and Twitter page. By keeping a uniform design, your customers will easily be able to visually recognize your product quickly, which is pivotal in brand differentiation.

Everything we designed for them helped their initial business concepts become a complete reality. We showed them that each aspect of the design process helps tell the story of what you’re selling, who your company is and what kind of customer you want to attract. Putting thought into each piece of this design puzzle is an important part of developing your brand into the brand you want; and by doing so, you’ll set yourself up for success in any industry, every time.
