One out of every five Americans uses Instagram, and the social media platform is well aware of how attractive it is to business owners. Advertising options have recently expanded, with the Carousel ads now allowing video and image based content to be used together. Now TechCrunch is reporting that Instagram is testing business profiles.
Business profiles are meant to be Instagram’s answer to Facebook’s Business pages. Obviously, there are some functional differences between the platforms, and Instagram’s business profiles are shorter and more succinct by design. They do, however, include several features that make it easier for customers to connect with you in a meaningful way.

In addition to the traditional Instagram profile, the business profile includes a button with three sections: one to contact through Instagram, another to access to maps and directions, and a third, tap to email. There’s also an expanded space for business owners to describe exactly what they do. These essentials address the most common customer concerns. It would be nice to see a way to share brick and mortar location hours of operation; as of right now, it appears customers will have to continue to click through to your website to get that information.
There’s no word yet on when Instagram business profiles will be available for everyone; officials are saying nothing more than ‘in a few months’. Keep your eyes open, because when business profiles do become available, you’ll want to update your business accounts to include this new information and functionality.
