Matthew D. Asbell, Esq.
With background in information technology, entertainment and medicine, and a love for global language, culture and food, Matthew Asbell has worked with clients in diverse industries, including for luxury designers and their brands. Matthew’s passion for his work in intellectual property arises from a deep appreciation for creativity, whether in the form of invention, design, expression or marketing. He assists clients in clearing, obtaining, enforcing and defending trademark rights in the United States and throughout the world, and advises on design and utility patents, copyrights, domain names and related areas.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Matthew managed emerging singer-songwriters and recording artists, trained corporate employees of a pharmaceutical company to use software applications and studied medicine. Matthew is certified as a software Master Instructor and a Social Media Strategist. He serves as an adjunct professor of law and frequent guest lecturer at Fordham University and The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (Yeshiva University), and has taught at Columbia University and the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia (ISDE) in Madrid, Spain. He regularly mentors business owners, creators, new lawyers and law students.
Outside of work, Matthew, a native of Philadelphia, enjoys spending time with his wife, a Brazilian staff member of the United Nations, and their twin children. He is the host of INTANGIFY, a podcast about the intangible aspects of business. His interests range from music (including songwriting, piano, guitar, and percussion), cooking, SCUBA diving and martial arts.
