Where to Download Free Graphic Design Fonts for Commercial Use

Key Takeaways:

What is Font Squirrel?

Though there are a number of free font websites, some of them come with a sketchy reputation that makes downloading fonts a dodgy idea, and others may be safe, but they don’t offer fonts that are cleared for commercial use.

Font Squirrel is a “free font utopia.” It’s a website that lets you safely download graphic design fonts licensed for commercial and personal use. Font Squirrel offers hundreds (if not thousands) of free fonts for commercial use allowing you to spice up your design projects including ads, website and social media graphics, and more.

Expand your creativity and open a world of design possibilities for your brand when you start using Font Squirrel! We’ll show you how.

How Do I Find Fonts on Font Squirrel?

Font Squirrel makes it easy to browse hundreds of fonts until you find the one that works best for your brand or one-off design. But with all those fonts, it can be hard to choose the right one! Thankfully, Font Squirrel enables users to quickly identify fonts based on intention or vibe, especially when using the search feature.

If you know exactly which font you’re looking for and can identify it by name, use the search bar to narrow down Font Squirrel’s extensive library of free fonts. Alternatively, you can search for fonts based on their tags. This is a great option if you’re unsure about the specifics, but you know you want a scary font for your Haunted House flyer, or a script font for your wedding invitations.

How Do I Use a New Font?

Once you’ve downloaded the perfect font from Font Squirrel, you’ll be eager to put it to use, right? Here’s how you can start using your new font:

1. Locate Your Download.

Any fonts you get from Font Squirrel will be saved to the location where your downloaded files land by default. This may be a Downloads folder of your PC, the desktop of your Mac, or in a location you manually selected.

2. Unzip the Font Files.

Your font will be downloaded as a zip file, which you’ll need to unzip before you install it. On Macs, double clicking the zip file will take care of this for you. On PC, you can click on the file in your file explorer, and you’ll see an unzip cue in the top options bar.

3. Install Your Fonts

With the files unzipped, you’ll be able to install the new font. PC users can open their settings to the Fonts section and drag the font files into the top box in the settings window. Those of you working from a Mac will be able to click on the font files and use Font Book to install.

4. Start Creating

Your fonts should be ready for use! Open your favorite design app like Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, and get to work creating content with your new font.
